Ragupathy's death: Kamalhaasan condemns banner culture

Coimbatore, Nov 27

"While the pedestrians do not have access to pavements, the politicians wanting to travel in 'palatial palanquin' ('pallakku' in Tamil) is highly absurd and will not last long" tweeted actor Kamal Hasaan in response to the death of a young man from Coimbatore. He is suspected to have lost his life after hitting a pole erected by AIADMK on the national highways in connection with the MGR centenary celebrations slated for Dec 3.

Recording his standpoint on the death of Ragupathy, Mr. Haasan has tweeted in Tamil denouncing the politicians and their political stunts in his much-followed twitter page

"Amidst so much grief, the insouciant politicians still want to go ahead with their celebrations? Such intentions will lead only to their downfall. While the pedestrians do not have access to pavements, the politicians planning to travel in 'palatial palanquin' ('palakku' in tamil) will not last long. Those responsible for causing death are to be regarded as murderers. And, Tamil Nadu 'bannerjis" have to mind this", the actor tweeted.

People, especially the Coimbatoreans, have welcomed this timely and clearly articulated comment from the actor who is expected to jump into politics any time soon.
