More than 35 volunteers of the Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI), Coimbatore, participated in a cleaning drive along the B-track, near Walayar, in Madukkarai Range, here on Sunday.

According to organisers, the clean-up that lasted over four hours was aimed at cleaning the forest patch of wastes such as plastic, glass bottles, rubber and thermocol that are thrown from the trains.
Over 40 bags of waste was collected on the day.

Participating volunteers were given an orientation to understand the need to clean the forest patch and were also sensitised about the harm caused by plastics and broken glass pieces to wildlife.

Field staff of Madukkarai Forest Range also participated in the cleaning drive.
