Coimbatore, Nov 26
"People cast vote for the candidate and not for the symbol," asserted T.T.V. Dinakaran, the chief of Sasikala's faction of AIADMK , who was here in the city on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Dinakaran, who is the nephew of jailed party leader Sasikala, said "People are sensible enough to vote for the right candidate. And, that they wouldn't choose somebody 'unsuitable'' for the sake of the two-leaf symbol."
He announced that he would be the contestant for the RK Nagar by poll on December 21, and said that he would move the Supreme Court to get the two-leaf symbol back to his faction.
Until then, our symbol would be 'hat', he added.
Earlier the election commission cancelled the by-poll in April, "fearing our victory", he said.
"I wonder under what authority Mr. Madusudhanan would fill the nomination forms A and B. Instead of predicting our defeat, I would suggest the EPS and OPS team to focus on the election and wait till the results are out", he said.
While the emotional connect of a segment of people with the iconic two-leaf symbol of AIADMK has been the sole reason for the victory of several 'sub-standard' MLAs and Ministers, Mr. Dinakaran's statement that the two-leaf symbol is "immaterial" and yet stating that he would fight hard to get back the symbol sounds highly intriguing.
