Coimbatore, Nov 26
While the public are pointing fingers at the banner structures using poles erected by the AIADMK for MGR centenary celebrations here as the cause for the death of the 32-year-old software engineer Raghupathy in an accident on the Avinashi Road in the wee hours of Saturday, the Police have refuted it. They have asserted that it was not the poles but a tipper lorry that had hit the motorcycle of Raghupathy causing his death.
Summary of the police report
Raghupathy, who was working in the US, had returned home to visit his parents at Chinniyampalayam, a week ago. In the early hours of Saturday, Ragupathy was on the way to Singanallur bus stand from his home. It is said that he was going to Palani temple for which he was to take a bus from Singanallur bus stand. At around, 2:40 am Raghupathy was found dead near Coimbatore Medical College.
The traffic investigation wing police decided to retrieve all CCTV footages on the Avinashi road stretch. After scrutinising the footages, the police identified a tipper lorry that was regularly going to and fro on the wrong side from Kamarajar road, Singanallur, towards Avinashi road.
The driver of the tipper has been arrested and investigation revealed that it was the tipper that collided with the victim's two-wheeler.

Fearing consequences, the driver of the tipper fled the scene. The tipper belongs to a private concern engaged in dumping wastes at the Vellalore dump yard. On the day of the incident, the driver had been in a hurry to park the lorry in the company's parking lot at Cheran Maa Nagar. "As we was in a hurry, he was driving at a very high speed on the wrong side for a stretch of 3 km starting from ESI hospital," says the police report.

"The reports from the police are completely contrary to the initial reports. We suspect the report has been manipulated in favour of the ruling party", some of the local people said.
Mr. N. Karthick, MLA of Singanallur constituency, had lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police, K. Periaiah, seeking action with regard to the incident.
Since the incident, the social media has been abuzz with comments demanding action against the AIADMK and officials who were hand-in-glove in the entire episode.
