At no point in time have we asked for the road to be made into a one way, says Brookefields Mall

Coimbatore, Nov. 26

A few days ago media had carried news about how the Coimbatore City Police was planning to conduct surveys to see whether the present one-way Krishnaswamy Road (well known as Brooke Bond Road) could be opened to previous two-way traffic.

SimpliCity had carried a report “Will Krishnaswamy Road become two-way, again ?” on November 23.

Based on the above report, Brookefields Mall has sent a rejoinder, which we publish below:

“We have been operational since 2010 and the decision to make it one way was taken in 2016. We feel it is not right to suggest that this alteration was made at our behest. At no point in time have we asked for the road to be made into a one way nor were we asked our views on the same. The authorities have taken the decision then to ease the traffic on the road and at that point in time we have come to know of the change only after it was implemented. The current scheme actually makes it difficult for customers to come to the mall from Avinashi road and we have actually seen a dip in footfalls for a few months after the same was implemented. Hardly something one would count as an advantage. As a law abiding organisation we are willing to cooperate with whatever call the traffic authorities take with regards to retaining the one way or returning to the original configuration.”
