'Industrial Associations in the city have always been supportive towards the initiatives of the city administration contributed to the growth and development of the city,' Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, Coimbatore Municipal City Commissioner, said here on Wednesday.
He was speaking at a function organised by the PSG Institutions to felicitate its alumni who now head various Industrial Associations/Professional bodies in the district, and city as Chairpersons and Presidents.

City Corporation Commissioner, who was the chief guest of the event, lauded the efforts of the industrial associations of the city and the district in supporting and addressing civic issues of the city as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He also fondly recalled his association with PSG Institutions and termed the convention hall of PSG Institute of Management as lucky for it being a place where the proposal for Smart City Project was mooted first. Later the city was chosen for the same by the government of India.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. N. Subramanian of Kovai Nanneri Kazhagam, drew attention to the challenges being faced by industries in staying afloat in today's challenging domestic and external economic environment.
Underscoring the significance of having to take bold and decisive leadership at the level of industries and government to move forward and achieve bigger, Mr. Subramanian reminded the audience that talented, hardworking, and skilled workforce of the city with entrepreneurship spirit was its biggest advantage and which explained its impressive growth and reputation as being one of the highly industrialised cities of the country.
He also emphasised the fact that educational institutions had the responsibility in instilling good values, besides imparting holistic education to the students.
As many as 22 alumni of the PSG Institutions were felicitated with citations and shawl, jointly by the City Corporation Commissioner and Mr. L. Gopala Krishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG & Sons Charities.
While PSG Institutions have been hosting biennial alumni event since 2011 to appreciate and honour its alumni for their achievements as head of professional bodies/associations of the Coimbatore city and district, this year event was special for them because it was for the first time 22 alumni of PSG Institutions were heading several of them on the strength of their exemplary feats.
