Liqour bars should be open till 2 a.m.: TANBAC President

Coimbatore, Nov. 16

The Tamil Nadu Bar (Hotel) and Club Owners Association (TANBAC) has appealed to the State Government to allow the clubs and bars to operate till 2 a.m. in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to the media after the annual general body meeting of the association, its President Benze Saravanan expressed his gratitude to the central government for reducing the GST on hotels.

"As revised for hotels, the 28% GST leived on star hotels should also be reduced by 50 per cent. And, also as permitted in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, clubs and bars should be allowed to operate till 2 a.m. in Tamil Nadu", he requested.

"The government should on priority appoint a new Commissioner for Prohibition and Excise Department. At present, the additional director is vested with added reponsibility", he said.

"In the present scenario, imported liquor items are made available only at the 'elite' shops run by TASMAC. Going forward, such 'foreign' stocks should be made available at normal TASMAC outlets as well. And, hotels with more than 10 rooms should be granted liquor/bar permission", the TANBAC President said.
