Ministers lay foundation for MGR centenary celebrations

Coimbatore, Nov 16: As decided, the State Government will celebrate the birth centenary of MGR on December 3 here.

Ministers - Dindigul Srinivasan, K.A. Sengottaiyan, Sellur K. Raju, S.P. Velumani, Udumalai Radhakrishnan, K.C. Karuppannan, M.R. Vijayabhaskar and P. Thangamani were here today at the VOC Park grounds to lay the foundation for the centenary celebration.



Special poojas were conducted at the venue during the erection of the 'holy pole' which marks the beginning of the event.



Starting from today, cultural events including oratorical, essay writing, painting, and sports competitions will commence for students studying in Government and Corporation Primary schools, sources say.



A review meeting on this regard was convened on November 3 at the District Collectorate urging officials to focus on making the event a grand success, especially in Coimbatore which is the virutal capital of the Kongu region.
