Health Officer on hunger strike


Coimbatore, Nov. 15

Tense situation prevailed at the Corporation Office here as a Health Officer announced that he would stage an indefinite hunger strike forthwith. 

Mr. Pitchai Mani, the health officer who is on hunger strike, alleged that he was one among the 5 personnel promoted as Health Officers. An order confirming the same was also issued as well as per rules . However, till date the due benefits like salary hike, and vehicle for inspection has not been given to them. 

He also alleged that they have been forced to work under their subordinates who are relatives of a Minister. 

Mr. Pitchai lamented that despite knowing their plight, the Corporation Commissioner had not taken any action. Instead he has advised them to take it to the notice of the Municipal Administration Minister. 

The city corporation office at Town Hall has witnessed many novel protests and hunger strikes but this hunger strike by a health officer has definitely created a stir.
