Judgement date announced in Shankar honour killing case

Ms. Alamelu Nataraj , Principal District and Sessions Judge, Tiruppur, today announced that the judgement in Udumalpet Shankar honour killing case will be announced on December 12. 

When the case came up for hearing today at the Principal District and Sessions Court, Tiruppur, all the 11 accussed who are relatives of Kowsalya, the wife of the deceased, were present. A 1,500 page charge-sheet was produced in the court. As today was the final hearing Kowsalya was also present. Additional security personnel were deployed at the court. 

On March 13, 2013, Shankar (22), a dalit, was attacked in broad daylight by a three-member gang at Udumalpet. While Sankar died on the way to hospital, his wife, Kowsalya, escaped with severe head injuries. Investigations revealed that relatives, including Kowsalya's father, who opposed their marriage had plotted this murder.
