800 cusecs of water from Aliyar reservoir to be released to canals in Pollachi; farmers cheer.

District Collector, TN Hariharan in a press release has stated that water for irrigational purpose would be released from the Aliyar reservoir starting from 10th September (tomorrow) to 8th January, 2018, for 120 days to Pollachi region through various canals.

Under the Aliyar old Irrigation Ayacut scheme, 800 cusecs of water will be released for cultivation purpose through five canals of Pollachi region, benefiting 6400 acres of agricultural land.

This water disbursement could largely benefit the regions of Kottur, Aliyar and Annamalai as paddy cultivation is pre-dominantly carried over in that belt.

The District Collector has requested the farmers to make use of the opportunity and importantly not to indulge in unfair practices like pumping water directly from the canal using suction motor pumps.
