SC on Anti-NEET protests: Only peaceful protests to be allowed. Govt to maintain law and order.

Supreme Court of India, has banned all forms of anti- NEET protests being witnessed all over Tamilnadu and  the apex court has also ordered the Tamilnadu Government to maintain law and order

With the latest SC ruling anti- NEET protests staged by political parties, court boycotts, and  students protests in all forms  would be banned and no police permission given to such protests.

Since Ariyalur Anitha, the medical aspirant had ended her life, there was an outburst of grief and popular sentiment was against the imposition of  NEET which had claimed the life of a brilliant student

Anitha took the extreme step of ending her life after she was denied a medical seat, due to admissions carried out on the basis of NEET score in Tamilnadu, following a SC verdict.

However Supreme Court bench which heard the petition filed by lawyer GS Mani saying that the law and order situation has deteriorated in Tamilnadu and the state machinery is struggling to grapple with the situation, it ruled  that such protest be banned and ordered the state to maintain law and order.

"The Chief Secretary shall see to it that anyone involved in any kind of 'bandh' or activity that disrupts the normal life and detrimentally affects law and order in the state of Tamil Nadu shall be booked under the appropriate law," reads the Supreme Court order.

The Bench comprising of Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice Chandrachud, however, observed, "We may clearly state here that a peaceful protest or criticism or dissent is different than creation of a law and orders situation. Every citizen of this country has a fundamental right to peacefully protest and demonstrate, but not to cause a situation that results in violence and paralyzes the law and order situation."
