The Kovai Power Driven Motor Pumps and Manufacturers Association (KOPMA) members struck work today and staged an agitation demanding to do away with the exorbitant hike in taxes under the GST regime.

In an agitation organized in front of the Power House in the city, they said the roll out of GST regime has led to hike in taxes up to 28% for spare parts from the earlier 5% and this has adversely affected the prospects of SME companies.
"The production orders have fallen considerably as orders have to be placed on the basis of GST compliance and number. The rise in GST for farming equipments such as pump set have adversely impacted the farming community as well", KOPMA members said.
Over 3000 shops in the city downed shutter today in support of the KOPMA token strike.
