Student Activist Valarmathi takes part in opposition-led agitation demanding south-bound trains.

Demanding to reintroduce the long-denied South-bound trains from the city and its suburbs, the opposition parties including DMK, Congress, VCK, CPI, CPM, staged an agitation in front South taluk office.

The protesters said even though the Podanur-Pollachi gauge conversion work has been completed months back, the Southern Railway has been delaying the reintroduction of train services to Southern Tamilnadu including cities and towns like Madurai, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari.

It is condemnable that the Southern Railway Authorities are citing lack of funds to obtain coaches for these south-bound trains, which were run a decade back.

Valarmathi, the student’s activist who was released from Coimbatore prison took part in the agitation and raised slogans against the Southern Railway authorities.
