CM Edapadi Palanisamy has announced a compensation of Rs.4 lakh each to the victims who have died in bus stand roof collapse in Somanur in rural Coimbatore yesterday.
The injured have been given a relief of Rs.50,000 and Rs.25,000 as per the severity of the injuries.
As many as five waiting passengers died on the spot and several others sustained serious injuries even as the dilapidated bus stand in Somanur suddenly collapsed and came crashing to the ground yesterday at around 1.45 pm yesterday.
The injured have been admitted to Government Medical College Hospital and private hospitals and rescue operations launched and trapped victims rescued.
The roofing and walls of dilapidated bus stand in Somanur came crashing even as many passengers were waiting to board the bus to the respective destinations.
On lookers said that major portion of the roofing fell on the two TNSTC buses parked in the bus stand, which saved many other lives. The bus stand was constructed in 2004.
SP Velumani, Minister for Municipalities visited the victims who are undergoing treatment and handed over the compensation.

“The doctors have been advised to give the best possible treatment to the roof collapse victims”, the minister said.
