Four dead and several injured as bus stand collapses in Somanur in the city.


As many as four waiting passengers died and many others sustained serious injuries even as the dilapidated Bus stand in Somanur suddenly collapsed and came crashing to the ground this morning.



Rescue operations have been launched to rescue the trapped persons inside the debris. It is reported that several passengers could have been trapped in the debris. All the injured have been rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment. Hence, it is expected that the death toll could rise. 

Cranes and poclain earth movers are engaged to remove the debris and rescue the trapped persons by fire and rescue personnel.



Ambulances have been pressed into service to ferry the injured and rescued to the nearby hospitals.



The roofing and walls of dilapidated bus stand in Somanur came crashing even as many passengers were waiting to board the bus to the respective destinations. 

The wide spread rains might have weakened the old, dilapidated structure leading to the accident said the locals.
