A petition has been filed in Supreme Court of India, seeking a direction to Tamilnadu Government to initiate a judicial inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of Anitha, the medical aspirant who died under duress.
Anitha, the medical aspirant had resorted to the extreme step of ending her life after she was denied a medical seat, due to admissions carried out on the basis of NEET score in Tamilnadu, following a SC verdict.
Supreme Court lawyer GS Mani who filed the petition also noted that the law and order situation has worsened in Tamilnadu and the state machinery is struggling to grapple with the situation. The SC should order a stay on the people protests as they are staged against the SC verdict and amounted to contempt of court.
However the Supreme Court bench headed by Deepak Mishra, Chief Justice of India refused to hear the petition on emergency basis, and the petition has been listed for hearing in the afternoon.
