At a time, when the whole state is in the grip of anti-NEET protests triggered by the untimely death of Anitha of Ariyalur, a medical aspirant who committed suicide as her hopes of joining a medical college were dashed. An old letter purportedly written by erstwhile Chief minister J Jayalalithaa to Prime Minister Modi is going viral in the social media and it has captured the imagination of the anti-NEET protestors in a big way.
Jayalalithaa in the letter written to Prime Minister Modi, dated May 2016 while thanking the PM for giving the exemption for the year 2016 by enacting an ordinance has stressed that a permanent NEET exemption given to Tamilnadu would serve the weaker sections and rural students.

Jayalalithaa in her dated letter has said. “This measure should be taken keeping in view the interests of students, particularly from the weaker sections and rural areas, to ensure that a level playing field is created.”
The iron lady has also stated in her letter “Introduction of NEET would be a direct infringement on the rights of the State and would cause grave injustice to the students of Tamil Nadu who have already been covered by a fair and transparent admission policy laid down by the Government of Tamil Nadu, which has been working well,”
The letter is being circulated in social media even as the state has risen in revolt against the imposition of NEET on states like Tamil Nadu.
