As "must carry" driving license rule comes into effect, motorists should steer clear of this " six cardinal road sins "

As the mandatory carrying of Original Driving license rule by all motorists, come into force in Tamilnadu from tomorrow , motorists are expected to steer clear of committing this "six cardinal sins" with regard to traffic rules, as it would lead to cancellation of their driving license as per new rules. 

However they may doubts among city denizens as to why the Government should insist upon original driving license all of a sudden and enforce it as mandatory rule.

SimpliCity spoke a senior Traffic Police officer who came out with the six vital reasons for the decision for strict enforcement of this rule from tomorrow onwards.

There are six road and traffic violations which are identified as the prime causes for increasing road accidents and fatalities by a higher level monitoring committee constituted under the guideline of the Supreme Court. 

The Committee identified over speeding, rash driving, jumping signal, drunken driving, overloading and using cargo vehicle for the transport of humans as the prime causes and cardinal sins to be avoided by road users to bring down the accident rate in Tamilnadu, which holds a second in the nation in the highest number of fatal accidents. 

When Supreme Court demanded to know why the law enforcing authorities hesitate to cancel the licenses it was cited that most of the motorists do not carry the original but a photo copy of the license. So the new rule 

When offenders indulge in such road offences, the license of the motorists could be cancelled or suspended for a minimum period of three months as per the new rule .  

“The traffic offenders who indulge in the six cardinal offences of road rules would be penalized and their driving licenses would be cancelled at least for 3 months” the senior traffic cop said.
