Due to heavy flooding caused by the recent downpour the residents of Kallukuli area near Sungam have been highly affected as over 20 houses have submerged in the waters.

"The affected residents are crying foul as this has been a recurrent phenomenon every year. The flood affected Kallukuli would be trigger for diseases and callous authorities have not taken any effort to pump out the stagnated rainwater", complain the irate residents.
While the flood waters have risen up to a five feet, the residents have lost some of the possessions and the low lying areas has been prone to flooding whenever there is heavy rains lashing the city.

“Even the doctor’s prescription for my ailing father has been washed away by the floods and I am clueless as to get his medicines”, said an affected resident.
“Though the callous officials have been promising to allot Tamilnadu Slum Clearance Board tenements nothing has materialized yet”, complain the residents in one voice.
'The District Collector T.N.Hariharan should address our problem and make alternative arrangements for our shelter needs", say the residents.
It may be recalled that three lives were lost when Kallukuli area was flooded a few years back. But the miserable situation has not changed a bit and remains the same for the residents to this day.
