K. Babu, a Health Supervisor from Salem was declared brain dead after he suffered head injury in an accident at Malliakarai, near Salem. The deceased was under-going crirical treatment at KMCH from 29th June, 2017. However, not responding to the treatment, Babu was declared brain dead on 31st August.
Though the entire family was struck in grief, Sridhar, son of Babu came forward to donate his father's organ. The doctors at KMCH appreciated the family's decision and harvested all the vital organs of the deceased.
His Heart was sent to other private hospital at Chennai; One Kidney was sent to K.G Hospital & Eyes were sent to Aravind hospital at Coimbatore.
Babu's family members expressed that they felt very proud and content to donate his organs which has now given new lease of life to 6 needy people.
In honouring their gesture, Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH thanked the family for their bold and timely decision on organ donation. He added that this act of generosity will bring in more awareness towards this Nobel cause.
