In order to train the students from economically weaker sections of Coimbatore in silambam (martial arts), the members of the 'Agni Siragugal organisation' have taken up the task to provide free training for such students.
The inaugural training session started on Sunday at the Sangapalayam Panchayat Government High School in Pollachi and as many as ten students were given training by the members of the organisation.

Students between the classes of 3rd and 8th standards participated in the training and Karthick, one of the members and a final year student at Bishop Appaswamy College gave training.

According to M. Prabhu, founder of the non-profit organisation, they have planned to continue the training as long as possible with the students of the school and also extend to other government schools in the near future.
“As of now, we have not planned to collect any fee from the students. We believe that the number of students would gradually rise as more students have shown their interest,” he said.

He further added that the timing would be based on the availability of the students claiming that studies would not be affected because of the training.
“There are many activities the students should involve themselves in apart from books and studies,” opined Prabhu adding that such training should begin at a young age.
Prabhu also said that they have planned to take the initiative to a corporation run school inside Coimbatore City in the near future.
