Surprise showers lashed the city on Friday and Saturday recording a rainfall of 92mm. The much-needed showers has brought huge sigh of relief to the people especially the farmers whose fields are struck under the clutches of water scarcity.
The farmers from Thondamuthur region have reported that than intermittent drizzles such heavy rains will help to restore the ground water levels and fill the water bodies.
In the city, the showers that started on 5 pm of Friday lashed through the entire night and continued on Saturday night, as well. The low-lying ares were much affected by the water clogging and also Kikani flyover, Railway Station, Vadakovai, Lanka corner, Saibaba Kovil, Vadavalli and other places witnessed severe water clogging issues.
The pitch dark water indicating drainage water flowed through the prominent junctions along with the rain water causing much of nuisance to the motorists and pedestrians. Flooding on the east shore of the Periya Kulam on Palakkad road stalled the traffic for hours together.
Though the showers brought much cheer to the people, the water clogging issues remain to unease the citizens who point fingers on the officials for not seeking out permanent solutions to such issues.
