Due to the on-going monsoon showers in Valparai, the Monkey falls is experiencing flash floods, since yesterday.
Yesterday being a weekend, the falls was jam-packed with tourist who were from various parts of the district. The forest officials upon sighting slushy water falling from the falls, immediately cleared the tourists suspecting floods.
The intuition of the officials were right, as within a few minutes, the flash floods began and water started pouring from the falls beyond the safety lines. Undoubtedly, the timely action by the forest officials saved the lives of hundreds of tourists who were enjoying their bath at the falls.
The falls has been closed for today, and depending on the rainfall the officials would announce the re-opening of the falls.
