A public event to create awareness on “Rally for Rivers” is organized on 3rd of September from 4PM at the V.O.C Ground, Coimbatore.
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Founder of Isha Foundation, Shri V.P.Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab Shri Virendra Sehwag, Cricketing Legend Shri.S.P.Velumani, Minister of Municipal Administration Vice Chancellor of Tamilnadu Agriculture University Prof K.Ramasamy, Indian Cricket Team Captain Mithali Dorairaj, Racer Shri Narain Karthikeyan, Senior Vice President Shri Vijay Ram Nakra will be honoring the multitude present in the event that will also include vibrant music performances.
Thousands of people including Students from schools and colleges, Farmers, Business men, corporate employees, and Soldiers from BSF will be participating in this gathering. Entry is free for all.
Elaborating on the need for “Rally for Rivers” the coordinators of mammoth effort said “Our Rivers which nourished our life and our civilization for thousands of years have been fast depleting. Volunteers have been working intensely across the country to spread awareness among students, Government, Private Offices, social welfare organizations about depletion of our rivers .This is not a protest or agitation in nature. This is a massive awareness campaign to catalyze policy and action to increase the basic water flow of our rivers.
The government must immediately create a policy that will offer scientific solutions to increase our soil fertility and rejuvenate river flow and bring about an economic transformation in the lives of the farmers. An expert committee of environmental scientists and lawmakers are in the process of drawing up a draft policy recommendation. One of the very simple yet effective means to replenish our rivers is to create a kilometer-wide tree cover on riversides (and half a kilometer for tributaries).This recommendation also includes many other economic and ecological non-negotiables. This which will be submitted to the Central Government and State Chief Ministers. At the same time, such a political law can only be implemented with the support of the public.
In his an effort to generate awareness on saving our rivers, Sadhguru, Founder of Isha foundation, will be traveling across India for 30 days, driving a car all by himself for around 7000km. The nationwide rally that will start on September 3 which will be Sadhguru’s 60th birthday. Jawans from the Border Security Force will also be traveling along with the participants of the rally.
He will be joined by the general public, leaders and celebrities at various places along the way. The nationwide rally which starts on September 3 will travel through 16 States and will culminate at New Delhi on October 2. More than 20 "Rally for Rivers” events will be happening en route. All the 16 Chief Ministers have confirmed their participation and expressed support for these awareness rallies.
In Tamilnadu, major events are scheduled to happen in Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Trichy, Pondicherry and Chennai.
Many Organizations including Confederation of Indian Industries, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indian Railways have extended their support for this noble cause. Many leaders, across and political parties and religions, have been extending their support for this noble cause nationwide. More than 300 influencers including Film Stars, Sports Personalities Government Officials, have been extending their support for the past one month.
