Following, the order passed by the State Transport Department Minister Vijaya Bhaskar urging the drivers to carry their original driving license, the order becomes mandatory from 1st September, 2017.
Reiterating the same, Commissioner of Police, A. Amalraj, has stated that "All drivers are supposed to carry their original driving license at all times. Those who carry photo copy of the same will be fined up to Rs. 500 or have to face imprisonment up to three months".
As there are instances where drivers deceive the traffic police by showing photo copies of their driving license that could be revoked or barred. Hence, it is made mandatory to show the original driving license, if asked.
