First-of-its kind initiative launched in Coimbatore, two-wheeler license applicants to produce Honda's "Training Completion Certificate" mandatorily to get license.

As per the new directive by the Coimbatore Transport Department, any individual who wants to apply for permanent driving license in the entire Coimbatore Zone (Coimbatore, Tirupur and Nilgiris Districts) will have to undergo the Honda Two Wheeler's India’s road safety training which aims to enhance road safety education among riders.

Henceforth, new driving license applications will be considered by the RTO only if "Training Completion Certificate" is enclosed.  The Awareness Programme will be conducted six days a week (Monday to Saturday) from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Children Traffic Park , Dr. Balasundaram Road, Opposite RTO office, PRS Ground.

In 2016, the Coimbatore City Police in collaboration with Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) revamped the Children’s Traffic Park in the city benefiting close to 11,000 drivers till date. Following HMSI's contribution in regulating the drivers practices, HMSI have been awarded exclusive rights to conduct safety awareness programme with the support of Transport Department (Coimbatore Zone).

Honda’s Road Safety Awareness Programme is a specially developed training module that covers key road safety topics like developing road skills, concepts of speed limit and correct overtaking, basic understanding of two-wheeler, Motor vehicle Act, understanding road signs and markings, ill-effects of drunken driving and how to enhance rider’s mental attitude.

Sharing his insight into this association, A. Amalraj, Commissioner of Coimbatore City Police, said, “Keeping the roads safe for all road users is the responsibility of all citizens. The training given for new riders at Children’s Traffic Park will help them enjoy the Joys of two-wheeler yet riding safely. I appreciate the involvement and professionalism of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India and the Transport Department in making this initiative a grand success”.

Speaking about this initiative, P. Muruganandham, Joint Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Zone-18, said, “The state of Tamil Nadu has recorded the highest accident rates in India and most of the victims are youngsters who are riding two-wheelers. In order to reduce the accident rate, Coimbatore Police has associated with Honda 2 Wheelers India in January 2017 and provided facilities to give road safety training to all two-wheeler riders thereby reducing the accident rates drastically".

Sharing how Honda has contributed to make Coimbatore roads safer and the way ahead, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President-Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Honda is committed to creating a safe society. Till date, we have spread road safety awareness to over 11,000 people including women and children at the Coimbatore Children traffic park. We are thankful to Coimbatore City Police and the Transport Department for providing Honda 2 Wheelers India an opportunity to further extend our road-safety awareness initiatives here. This is first time in India that a two-wheeler company’s training module has been recognized by the State Transport Department for new license application.”

Honda’s road safety initiatives at the Children Traffic Park, Coimbatore

Honda’s 'Dream Riding' initiative exclusively for women empowers them to learn two-wheeler riding in a supervised practical & theoretical module by female instructors in around 4 hours (subject to rider skill).

Dedicated Helpline: Coimbatore citizens can now call the helpline number +91 8190000700 between 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and register themselves as per their convenience for the free of cost training.

Fun Road safety modules for children as per age – For 5- 8 year olds, Honda’s primary road safety module helps kids learn more through games like  snakes and ladders on road safety. For 9-12 year old kids, Honda has the CRF 50 motorcycle. This helps young minds grasp safe riding concept through practical riding.

Re-cognizant that many existing riders over 18 years of age need to improve their safe riding skills, Honda conducts safe riding skill up activities like gymkhana and narrow plank. Here, riders participate in practical riding contests and improve their balance and riding skills.

Honda’s Proprietary riding trainer – A virtual riding simulator helps people above 16 years of age to experience over 100 possible dangers on road before actual riding on road. The biggest advantage for new riders is that virtual experience will significantly increase their ability to predict & react to traffic hazards.

Additional features of Children Training Park include an amphitheater with LED for road safety education, watch tower, rope-way and an exclusive Kids Play Zone.
