A wild tusker which trampled to death 62- year Velusamy a resident of Karumalaipatti village near Valparai died today, even as the Forest Department personnel have launched an operation to capture the wild elephant with the help of Kumkis.
The locals staged a dharna, saying that they would not take the body of elephant attack victim until district Collector T.N. Hariharan and forest officials come to the scene, and give promise to protect them against while elephant depredations which are growing by day.
Following the agitation staged by the Villagers the forest officials decided to capture the wild elephant with the help of Kaleem, a Kumki elephant from Topslip elephant camp.
During the operation, unfortunately the wild tusker died under duress as forest staff tried to capture it using Kumki elephant.
