Dr Aishwarya Arjun, executive committee member of Young Indians, Coimbatore Chapter was invited for a special discussion with the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a part of Champions of Change.
“Champions of Change” is an initiative of NITI Aayog where Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with select Young Entrepreneurs from across the country, representing various sectors at Pravasi Bharatia Kendra.Six groups of Young Entrepreneurs made presentations before the PM on varied themes such as – Cities of Tomorrow, Make in India, New India 2022 and Doubling Farmers Income.
Dr.Aishwarya presented on the theme “Cities of Tomorrow”. Smart Urbanization, Public Transport & Mobility, Developing Growth Clusters, City Governance and Sustainable Urban Planning were some of the factors discussed under the theme ‘Cities of Tomorrow’, with an objective to achieve growth & uplift the quality of life of the citizens.
Dr Aishwarya and her team worked on the concept Nagara Nakshatra: ‘Constellation of Cities’ - A Model to Develop Inclusive Social Capital. The Model emphasizes the need to make available basic infrastructure like Water, Electricity, Sanitation, Health, Education and Mobility. It envisages a common template for all “Nagaras” where resource allocation is target based. It ultimately helps evolve a framework of Inter-Dependent cities leading to a network of people that develop Social Capital. Social Capital is the network of relationships among people who live and work in a particular society, enabling that society to function effectively.
Dr.Aishwarya said, "We can never change things by fighting the existing reality. To Change something, we to build a new model that makes the existing model better! "
The idea is to promote interdependent Cities where there is an emphasis on seamless & mass movement of People, Products & Produce. By networking cities with Peri-Urban areas the stress on the city is reduced and it helps develop a sustainable model. She has presented her points on the Topic ‘Cities of Tomorrow’ to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers & Secretaries in the meeting.
The Prime Minister described the "Champions of Change" initiative as one effort to bring together diverse strengths for the benefit of the nation and society. The Prime Minister also said this initiative would be taken forward and institutionalised in the best possible way by associating the participant groups with respective Departments and Ministries in the Union Government.
Dr Aishwaya Arjun has been part of the Health Care panel of Yi Coimbatore chapter since 2015 and is also currently the National Chair for Project Gift an Organ that is now spread across 40 chapters of Yi. She is also the core committee member of the CII-Yi ‘Healthy Kovai’ initiative that was initiated with an objective to create an active community to improve the health of the city.
