Pure in their thoughts, innocent in their actions but vulnerable to the worldly misdeeds is the story of every child who is abused. According to reports, every second a child is abused or is a victim of abuse in some manner or the other.
Some children suffer silently, some are unaware of what is inflicted on them while some are asked to ignore and let it go. No matter what, but such incidents leaves an impact on them for life.
A child who deserves to blossom like a flower is susceptible to abuse and that is because neither the child is aware of what is wrong or right and most of the times even elders are unaware of what kind of abuses the child is vulnerable to.
Bringing light to this impending social issue is Project Masoom, a vertical of Young Indians (Yi).
On the 11th of August, 2017, CII-Young Indians, Coimbatore Chapter in association with Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) released a public charter here, to present the guidelines that seeks to protect children from abuse of any kind
The charter was unveiled by CCMC Commissioner, Dr K.VijayaKarthikeyan, along with Rebeca Rios-Kohn, Director, WDPAC, Arigatou International -New York, Yi Chairman, Prasanna Krishna, members of Shanthi Ashram and executive committee members of Yi, Coimbatore Chapter.
The charter launch was followed by skits and cultural programs that highlighted the darkness of child abuse. And, also how children should be aware on how to protect themselves from such situations and also they should be empowered to tell their parents/teachers when they face such issues.
The guidelines of charter is a pledge proposed to be applied in every school, public places and most importantly to be practiced by every individual to protect the safety of a child.
