Uday Express, the double-decker night train connecting Coimbatore-Bangalore, the operation of which is much awaited has finally reached Coimbatore junction for trial run.

This noon, the Uday express with three coaches traversing Jolarpet, Salem, Erode reached the Coimbatore railway junction which received a hearty welcome by the railway staff and train passengers.
Briefing the media, Chinna Raju, Railway Manager, Coimbatore Railway junction, said that the first trial run of the Uday express would be operated from Coimbatore via Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Krishnarayapuram, and then reach Bangalore.

Preparatory works have been completed to operate the double decker train which has a height of 4.6 meters. There would be ten coaches of chair car and each coach would have 120 seats. Uday express would be operated at a maximum speed limit of 110 kms and during trial run it would be operated at 80 kms speed.
Passenger amenities including bio toilets, central air-conditioning, pantry car, generator room and seats with lot of elbow rooms are some of the special features of the Uday express.

"The regular operations of the train would commence once the trial runs are over", the Railway Manager said.
During his recent visit to the city, Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Railways has reiterated that Uday express would be operated within a couple of months’ time as it has been a long standing demand of the Coimbatoreans.
