S.P. Velumani, Minister for Municipalities and Rural Development inaugurated Bharathiar University constituent Arts and Science college at Thondmuthur, this morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister SP velumani said that the 70 year long standing dream of the Thondmuthur people and neighboring areas have been fulfilled today as new college has been opened for the benefit of student community of Thondmuthur constituency.

"I have been stressing the need to start two new Arts and Science colleges in the Tamilnadu assembly. Chief Minister, Edapadi K Palanisamy has ordered for the establishment of two new Arts and Science colleges in Thondmuthur and Pollachi respectively. In the recent years, TN government has set up Anna Teresa Women’s College in RS Puram and Arts and Science college in Mettupalayam which makes the total count of four colleges for Coimbatore”’ the Minister said.

“The Government has allocated Rs.1.18 crore for the growth of education sector in the State. Rs.250 crores has been allocated for the implementation of Avinashi –Athikadavu project's first phase and Rs.16 crore has been spent for the construction of new collectorate building in Coimbatore” Minister SP Velumani said.
Adding that the admission to the new Arts and Science College would commence from the current academic year 2017-18 itself. Five undergraduate courses including B.A (English), B.A (Economics), B.Sc. (Mathematics) B.Com, B.com (CA) and BBA would be offered in Thondmuthur constituent college he said and it would function from the premises of Government Boys Higher secondary school.

The newly established college at Pollachi would be inaugurated soon, the Minister added.

District Collector T.N.Hariharan, Legislators, academicians and hundreds of public from the constituency took part in the grand inaugural function.
