Drivers representing various motor companies sped through as the MRF Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) – 2017 in Coimbatore here on Saturday.
Inaugurated by the Coimbatore District Collector T.N. Hariharan at the Codissia Grounds here, the rally is to see champion drivers battle it out for various prizes at the race track in Coimbatore, Chennai, Jaipur, Ziro, Chikmagalur and Bengaluru.
According to a release, the rally would cover a distance of 200 kilometers in and around Kethanur, on the outskirts of the city, with 71.40 kilometers earmarked for five special stages on gravel roads.
Briefing the media before the flagging off, Arindam Gosh, Director of Ramakrishna Race Performance Management (RRPM), which is jointly organising the event along with FMSCI said that the race also a rally in Arunachal Pradesh for the first time with the help of the State Government.
J. Prithiviraj, Clerk of the Courses claimed that the organising committee would also use the help of an air ambulance service for the first time. Champion racers including Gaurav Gill, Karna Kadur, Amittrajit Ghosh and Arjun Rao are one among the top contenders.
