The raging fire in Vellalore land fill could pose a health hazards for the people living in Vellalore and nearby areas and the Corporation should stream line the garbage disposal system to avoid any fire in future eventualities said, MLA Karthik, Singanallur constituency.
MLA Karthik who also holds the office of DMK district secretary (South) after inspecting the land fill said that while DMK was in power Rs.95.50 crores were allocated for waste management generated in the civic body, but after that the AIADMK government took over in 2011 it did not effectively do anything to implement management system.
"The raging fire in the land fill could cause asthma, suffocation and skin diseases among the population. Fire continue to break out in the land fill, and fire men are battling to contain the fire in the past few days as it spread to new pockets in the land fill", he said.
“Over 50,000 tonnes of garbage is dumped in the dump yard and civic officials have not concentrated on source segregation as is claimed by them, hence, fire tenders should be permanently stationed at the land fill up to prevent any future fires and eventualities caused due to fire", the MLA alleged.
