A 19-year old girl Sathypriya of Nagapattinam was successfully operated for her congenital heart problem in the Coimbatore Medical college Hospital under Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health scheme and she is recuperating well said Dr. Asokan, Dean of CMCH.

Dr. Ashokan who briefed media here said that this cardiac procedure is carried out for the first ever time under the free Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health scheme by a cardiologists team. The patient who had a congenital heart problem, with a hole in her heart could not breathe easily and had nausea. Tests revealed that she is suffering from a congenital heart problem, which was set right during the operation.
“A highly complex procedure, it was performed after resting the heart for 25 minutes with high –end medical equipments including heart and lung machine. This cardiac procedure if performed in private hospital would cost Rs.3 lakhs but it is performed free for patients in CMCH with the health card. “
