The NDA has announced Ram Nath Kovind as its official candidate for the for the upcoming Presidential poll, Amit Shah, BJP President made an announcement today to this effect.

Born in October 1, 1945 in Paraunkh, village, Derapur Tehsil Kanpur District, Ramnath Kovind is a current Governor of Bihar. Kovind is a politician from the Bharthiya Janata Party (BJP). He was elected to Rajya Sabha from state of Uttar Pradesh twice - in 1994-2000 and in 2000-2006. An advocate by profession he practiced law in Delhi.

He is a former President of the BJP Dalit Morcha (1998-2002) and President of the All-India Koli Samaj. He also served as national spokesperson of the party. On 8 August 2015 the President of India appointed him the Governor of Bihar. He is candidate for presidential election of 2017 as confirmed by Amit shah.
