5000 seed balls prepared by Kovai Kulangal Pathukaapu Amaippu to increase green cover in the district


Kovai Kulangal Pathukaapu Amaippu, a people’s movement to revive and restore water bodies in and around Coimbatore has embarked upon preparing seed balls to increase green cover in the district., added to their renovation work of major ponds which have been completed in the past few months.



The volunteers of the movement have prepared 5000 seed balls and it would be scattered in the western ghat regions where the tree cover has dwindled over the years



The water bodies renovation movement has engaged itself in renovating long-neglected water bodies including Vellalore tank in the past 18 weeks. They have now set out to cleanse and renovate Azhi Kinaru, an ancient well at Sundakkamuthur area, in which over 150 volunteers have taken part.



In the mean while the volunteers of Kovai Kulangal Paathukaapu Amaippu have engaged themselves in the strengthening the Sengulam tank bund, at Kuniamuthur with the help of plastic wastes collected from the pond. “Four earth movers have been pressed into service to complete the work within the stipulated time” said the volunteers.
