The Science Express Exhibition- on- wheels will be inaugurated by Sri Hari Shankar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem, at Athur Station on June 17.
With a view to create an awareness and interest on Science, the Department of Science and Technology, joining hands with Indian Railways, has been running Science Exhibition trains since October 2007.

So far, it has made 8 tours round the country, traveled about 1, 53,000 kms, and visiting 495 railway stations. Science Express is the longest running and the most visited mobile Science Exhibition that has awarded 12 entries in the Limca Book of Records.

The current phase, named as Climate Action Special II, was flagged off on 17th February, 2017, from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station by the Hon'ble Minister for Railways Sri Suresh Prabhu. In the current phase, the Science Express is covering 19,000 Kms exhibiting at 68 stations, including Athur and Karur Railway Stations of Salem Division.
The Climate Action Special Edition of Science Express, a unique Science Exhibition focusing on Climate Change is covering 1,45,000 kms across the country during the previous 8 phases, with more than 1.65 crore visitors, it is perhaps the most visited Science Exhibition in the world so far.

After completing Exhibition at Puducherry, the Science Express will reach Athur Railway Station on 17.06.2017, and will be there till 19.06.2017, from 10.00 hrs. To 17.00 hrs. Thereafter, it will be reaching Karur on 20.06.2017 to continue the exhibition till 22.06.2017.

Thereafter, it will leave for Kodaikanal Road railway station. There will be 13 coaches containing exhibits in the Train, that including, various aspect of Global Climate Change, Adaptation Techniques, Renewable Energy technology, Bio-technology, Kids Zone, Hands on Lab on Science for students of Standards 6 to 10 that would expose them to interesting scientific facts. For harnessing solar energy, Coaches 11 to 13 of Science Express have been fitted with Solar Panels.
Information on various exhibits will be available on board and the visitors can interact with the volunteers available in each coach to have their doubts cleared.
