In a yet another swift rescue operation, forest department personnel of Coimbatore Forest Division have rescued a spotted deer stag from a well at Ettimadai village in the District here on Friday.
According to officials, locals from the area have complained about the deer that had fallen into the well in the early hours on Friday. Forest Department personnel rushed to the spot and formulated a rescue plan.

Since the animal was a stag with antlers, officials were hesitant in entering the well as the horns of the animal could cause injuries with the animal already frightened by the fall.
Then the animal was tied to ropes using nooses and was lifted from the well. The stag then ran inside deep jungle to join other deers.

This is the second rescue operation in less than a week’s time after a sub-adult tusker was rescued from a well at Anakatti in Coimbatore Range.
Meanwhile, proper management of wells have been demanded by environmentalists as wells close to forest fringes often prove death traps for larger mammals including elephants, leopards, wild dogs and deers.
