Broken sewage line repaired on paper, Reality stinks

In a rather embarrassing incident, a broken sewage line near Dr.Radhakrishnan Road adjacent to the ESI dispensary in the city has been stated “repaired” by Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) officials, whereas reality is a nostril closing stinky affair.

The incident came to light on Thursday, when the complainant and one of the victims of officials’ lethargy, Subashini Eashwar informed in social media about the response of officials to her complaint filed a year ago.

She had officially filed a complaint with the Prime Minister’s grievance cell about the leaking sewage lines and poorly maintained wall of the ESI dispensary, with which the former shares the compound on the 3rd of February in 2016.

The issue was transferred to the State Government by the Centre, however, according to Subashini, no development happened with the complaint and the residents continued to share their residence with mosquitoes that breed in the stagnant sewage water. Bad stench from the water was also a hindrance.

Despite her repeated complaints and reports in media about the issue, the situation remained the same. Recently, officials from CCMC came to the spot and pruned the bushes leaving the broken sewage line untouched.

To her surprise, Subashini was flabbergasted to find that a letter had been sent to her from CCMC claiming that the sewage line was repaired on the 24th of February in 2014, whereas, officials had come there only recently.

“This comes as a total shock to us to find that the situation is resolved. It is still the same in reality,” she told the Simplicity.

When tried contacting officials from CCMC, they were unavailable for comment.
