Collector flags off World Blood Donor day awareness rally

District collector T.N.Hariharan flagged off a world Blood Donors Day rally here in which large number of college students took part. Bearing placards of “Give tears to the deceased and blood to those in tears’ the students went in the rally.

Elaborating on the need to donate blood, the collector said that blood donation camps were held in Pollchi, Mettupalayam and Coimbatore in which 116 donors have donated life-saving blood.

Blood donation leads to good health and even heart attack could be avoided by regular blood donors as the platelet and hemoglobin is kept within limits. Certain myths and superstitions prevail about blood donation, and the people should overcome this and come forward to donate blood in large numbers the collector said.
