Ramadan fasting and penance helps to purify, mind, body and soul.

The general law of penance and penitence is observed by all regions and its practioners all over the world. People of all religions including Hindus, Christians and Muslims have their own days of fasting and penance to purify the mind, body and the soul spread across the year.

For Muslims, the ongoing Ramadan month is considered to be a very holy month and they fast from dawn to dusk in this holy month which is considered as one of the duties of all practicing Muslims. The five pillars of Islam - Faith (Shahada), Salad (Prayer), Zakat (Charity), Sawm (Fasting) and Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca) are very important for Muslims and hence they pay keen interest in practicing them to enhance their lives.

The Ramadan fasting also serves to purify the body and soul. While fasting is a proven method to get rid of toxins in the body, it also paves way for a self-healing mechanism of the body. The fasting also helps a person to forsake sins, and prepares his body to bear hunger, thirst and abstinence from sexual desires all through the month.

The Ramadan fasting also helps one to avoid life style diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease say the practitioners and the food intake is limited during the days of penance and prayer.

More over as one wakes up at dawn to practice the penance, the lungs get pure air and it helps in blood circulation (like breathing exercises in Yoga). Most of the body organs including our digestive system gets an overhaul due to this rigorous fasting in these days.

The porridge served at all mosques during Ramadan fast is highly nutritious and has equal amount of protein and carbohydrates to replenish the lost energy due to daylong fasting.

The Tamilnadu Government headed by Edapadi Palanisamy has ordered distribution of 4,900 tonne of rice to over 3000 mosques in the state for the preparation of porridge during Ramadan fasting.
