Construction workers agitate demanding Govt. to run sand quarries

Urging the Government to take over Sand quarrying and mining of river sand in the state, the cadres various trade unions under CITU staged an agitation here.

Led by Manoharan, President of Construction workers Union, the agitators said that over 80% construction work in the state has been stalled due to skyrocketing prices of sand. One unit of sand is sold for Rs.30,000. Due to this over 2 lakh construction workers have been languishing without work.

The government should come forward to operate the sand quarries to make sand available for the construction activity and give livelihood measures to the affected construction workers.
