A team of brain surgeons headed by Dr.J.K.B.C. Parthiban have removed a complex brain tumour in the brain of ten year old Sudanese body, successfully.
Master Mohammed Omer was referred for tertiary care from Oman to KMCH. Dr Arul Sylvan, Neurologist analyzed the young boy, who suffered from excruciating pain on the left side of the face. Clinical investigations revealed a deep- seated tumour in the medial temporal lobe (Deeper Brain) close to vital structures and nerves that supply sensation to face of the ten-year old.
The child, though had lancinating and tingling pain on left side of the face, the child had no other neurological deficits and was stable. Subsequently the Neuroscience division decided to remove the tumor under the guidance of Dr.J.K.B.C.Parthiban, who is also currently the President of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry Association of Neurosurgeons.
In a four-hour high intense Microsurgery performed on the boy, the brain tumor was removed totally using Fluorescence dye optical visualization and the cutting edge instrument CUSA (Cavitron Ultrasound Suction Aspirator). The young boy had recovered from pain was discharged within a five days of surgery. The boy was stable and healthy, when discharged.
