Swift work of Forest staff gives life to tusker

Forest Department personnel of Coimbatore Division on Monday morning rescued an around 12-year-old sub-adult male elephant from a water tank near Moongil Pallam at Thadagam range here.

According to sources, the elephant had been roaming in the area while it fell down inside the cement tank near a brick kiln close to Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) around 11.pm.

Luckily for the tusker, locals who heard its trumpeting have informed forest official who rushed to the spot from Thadagam section. An immediate plan was formulated and it was decided to use an Earth Mover to break the tank allowing the tusker to move out easily.

A team of forest staff along with locals were involved the mission and in less than two hours, the animal moved out of the tank once the mouth of the tank was broken near a corner. The animal was then driven into deep jungle by forest staff.
