'A team of Food Safety Officials have been conducting raids and inspections for the third consecutive day in across various towns in Coimbatore region in rice godowns and shops and samples have been lifted from 16 places to find out if there is any sale of plastic rice. Thus far, no plastic rice has been found in sales outlets in the city, Pollachi and Mettupalayam towns', said O.L.S. Vijay, Designated Officer, Tamilnadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department.

Speaking to SimpliCity O.L.S. Vijay said that, 'Around 485 officials are conducting raids and inspection across the state in rice shops and markets for to find out any clandestine sale of plastic rice'.

R.Kamaraj, State Food minister has clearly indicated that the plastic rice has not entered Tamilnadu, where the buffer stock of paddy is more. However precautions are being taken to avoid any infiltration of such plastic rice variety in to the state, O.L.S. Vijay said.
