CCM Corporation officials have conducted surprise raids and seized a whopping 660 kg of plastic products from 437 shops and slapped a total fine of Rs.78,000 in the past week alone said a press communique issued here.
Intensifying its campaign to eradicate the use of plastics by city denizens the civic body is carrying out regulation checks in shops and business establishments to eradicate the use of plastics. Offender of the rule are slapped with fines as per the law.
"The fines are levied under Plastic wastes Management Act 2016 and shopkeepers selling plastic products below 50 micron level are taken to task and fined. The raids would continue further in all the five zones of the civic body" said CCMC Commissioner K.Vijayakarthikeyan.
