District Officials including District collector T.N.Hariharan, City Police Commissioner P. Amalarj and RDO Maduranthagi have visited the spot where the 20-year old rogue elephant went on a rampage and killed four people and injured two near Vellalore.
The Forest Department officials who are camping in the area where the operation to capture the rogue elephant has advised people not to venture out of their houses particularly during dawn and after dusk.
A 20-year old Tusker, which went on a rampage last night after emerging from the Madukarai forest area had attacked and killed four persons including a 13-year old Girl Gayathiri, who was sleeping in the front yard of her house along with her parents.

The tusker said to be in masth entered Sundarapuram at about 2 pm, yesterday night and trampled to death Gayathri and her mother Jothimani, who were sleeping in the front yard of their house. While her husband Vijayakumar was seriously injured in the wild elephant attack. The rouge elephant is said to have damaged a shop in Kurumpapalayam

The rampaging Tusker then left the place and entered Vellalampalayam near Vellalore and attacked Nagarathinam (75) and Palanisamy (73) who were sleeping in their hutments. Both of them died on the spot. It also attacked three others who are out to answer nature’s call. All the injured have been admitted in the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The Forest Department Personnel, who rushed to the spot in the morning decided to capture the rampaging wild tusker, and relocate or tame it as it has become a huge threat to people living on the forest fringes.

The forest department has pressed into service trained Kumkis including Pari, Sujay, Mariapan and Kalim to capture the rogue elephant, which has taken shelter in Vellalore forest areas. The operation is going on since early morning and the rogue elephant would be captured alive said a Forest official.
