20- year old Tusker on a mid-night rampage kills four and injures two near Vellalore



A 20- year old Tusker, which entered a neighbourhood went on a rampage and  attacked and killed four persons including a 13- year old Gayathiri, who was sleeping in the front yard of her house along with her parents near Vellalore. Two others were also attacked by the same elephant and killed in Vellalampudur, during its mid night raid.



The Tusker that is said to be in a masth state, entered Sundarapuram area at about 2 pm, from the Madukkarai forest area. The Tusker then trampled to death, Gayathri and her mother Jothimani, who were sleeping in the front yard of their house. Jothimani's husband, Vijayakumar was also seriously injured in the wild elephant attack.

The rampaging Tusker then left the place and entered Vellalampalayam near Vellalore and attacked Nagarathinam (75) and Palanisamy (73) who were sleeping in their hutments. Both of them died on the spot.



The Forest Department Personnel, who rushed to the spot in the morning decided to capture the rampaging wild tusker by engaging trained Kumkis. It is reported that trained Kumkis from Topslip, Pari and Karim have been deployed to capture the ferocious Tusker, which has killed four persons.

It is to be noted that a couple of days back this same lone Tusker injured three anti-poaching staff of the Forest Department, while they were engaged in chasing it off into the wild.
