Rs.16 Lakhs has been distributed by the Central jail amongst families of victims affected by heinous crimes committed by 46 prisoners. This initiative has been conducted since 2002. The Central Jail provides the funds and distributes amounts varying from Rs 10,000- 15,000 depending on the intensity of the crime committed. This initiative was suggested by the Financial Assistant Regional Officer and the Additional Director General of Police in a report.
The event was held at the Central Jail premises where the families of victims in 30 cases were provided with monetary aid. The amount was distributed by Mr.Arivudainambi, Prisoner Deputy Chief. This effort was devised to help the underprivileged gain means to daily bread and basic education.
Prisoner Superintendent of Police, Senthil Kumar, and Regional Probation Officer, Surya Murthy, were present on the occasion, as well.
